Learning Coordinator
Full-Time Term Position (April 2008 – April 2009) Compass Residential Youth Program

The AFM's Compass Residential Youth Program is housed in a 14-bed facility located four kilometers south of Portage la Prairie in Southport, Manitoba.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Program Supervisor and working within a multi-disciplinary team, the Learning Coordinator is responsible for the creation and delivery of quality learning programs for youth clients. This includes: design and implementation of student assessment instruments; design and delivery of instructional material, including individual upgrading and group-based teaching; working with youth clients to define and meet their academic objectives; liaison with clients’ home schools and other vocational resources; contribution to ongoing rehabilitation planning and program facilitation; program development; and documentation.
Qualifications: A Bachelor of Education degree with experience working in an alternative education setting and/or a suitable combination of education and experience. A valid teacher’s certificate is required, along with an interest and ability to work with at-risk youth; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work in a creative and organized manner; ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team; and ability to work independently. An understanding of, and sensitivity to, working with culturally diverse populations is essential. A current First Aid/CPR Certificate is required.

The AFM is a crown agency which contributes to the health and well-being of Manitobans by addressing the harm associated with addictions through education, prevention, rehabilitation and research. The Compass Program is a 14-bed rehabilitation facility for adolescents located four kilometres south of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Preparing and cooking meals for youth clients, staff and guests of the facility; using prescribed menu and recommended food portions; preparing meals for clients with special dietary requirements; conducting quality control checks; cleaning kitchen area and equipment; checking supplies and groceries received in the work area; and assisting in the residential facility operation requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of a recognized cooking course at the technical or community college level and/or a suitable combination of education and experience in quantity cooking. Physically capable of performing duties as assigned. Thorough understanding of food service sanitation standards including personal hygiene and kitchen safety practices. Ability to work in a team environment. An understanding of, and sensitivity to, working with culturally diverse populations is essential.

Supervisor

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director, Western Region, the incumbent will be an outcome oriented individual with supervisory experience who will be responsible for recruitment, supervision and performance management of staff in Willard Monson House; meeting administrative requirements such as budgeting, program operations, documentation, statistical information, and authorizations; participating in the planning processes at the Unit, Regional, and provincial levels of AFM; leading and facilitating the philosophy of continuous improvement; promoting a healthy team environment; conducting educational and public relations events; and collaboration and networking with community agencies and organizations, and representing the AFM on local and provincial committees. Some evening and weekend work may be required. This position is included in the on-call system. The incumbent must be able to attend the facility within 45 minutes.
Qualifications: A Master's degree in a related discipline and directly related supervisory experience, and/or a combination of education and experience; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work within a team environment; experience with budgetary cost centre management, and networking with external agencies. Knowledge of best practices in addictions service will be considered an asset. An understanding of, and sensitivity to, working with culturally diverse populations is essential. Must have a valid driver's license and supply own vehicle.

Part-Time Physician(s)
m.i.n.e. program (Methadone Intervention & Needle Exchange Program)
Winnipeg, MB
The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba is looking for part time physician service for clients attending the m.i.n.e. (Methadone Intervention & Needle Exchange) program, an outpatient clinic for individuals dealing with opiate addiction. The physician is responsible for the medical assessment of clients to determine their suitability for methadone maintenance therapy and ongoing medical care for clients. The m.i.n.e. program is supported by several part-time Physicians, fulltime Nurses, a Counselor, Secretary and Program Supervisor.
Hours of work are flexible within a M-F, daytime schedule. As the program is staffed with existing part-time physicians. Additional physician services for approximately 4 - 15 hours/week are required. Training and mentoring support is available from current physicians.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
- License to prescribe methadone within a methadone maintenance therapy program is required. Assistance to obtain this will be provided.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in the area of addictions is considered an asset.
Program Remuneration: Sessional fees in accordance with current Manitoba Medical Association rates.

Youth Care Workers
Casual - Southport, Manitoba
Applications are being accepted for our Youth Residential facility. Applicants should be able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends and be available on short notice.
Responsibilities: Care and safety of youth clients within the residential program; supervision of youth clients; participation in orientation and assessment processes; facilitation of educational and/or support groups; contribution to ongoing rehabilitation planning; participation in planning and delivery of daily recreational programming; responding to emergency or crisis situations; building security duties; reception/switchboard services; distribution of client supplies; and light housekeeping/maintenance duties. A variety of shifts are available including evenings and weekends but preference will be given to applicants available for weekday daytime hours.
Qualifications: High school diploma and a minimum of two (2) years experience working with youth, preferably in a residential setting. Knowledge of addictions is an asset. Completion of the Youth Care Certificate program and/or related educational background in the humanities is desirable. Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to assist youth in educational programs. Excellent physical health to participate in recreational programming and building maintenance is required. Availability for shift work, a valid Class 5 driver’s license and current CPR/First Aid certificate are required.

Applications are being accepted for our Adult Men's and Women's Residential facilities. Applicants should be able to work weekdays or weekends and be available on short notice. They would work days only.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for approximately 45 clients, in accordance with standard menus and recommended food portions; preparing menus for special dietary clients; conducting quality control checks; monitoring clients working on ssigned kitchen duties; cleaning kitchen area and equipment. Hours of work are 8 or 10 hour shifts, weekdays or weekends and applicants should be available on short notice.
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum 2 years experience in quantity cooking. Must be physically capable of performing duties assigned including the ability to lift and carry weights of up to 40 lbs. Thorough knowledge and understanding of food service sanitation standards including personal hygiene and kitchen safety practices. Food Handlers Training Certificate required. Valid CPR and First Aid certification is an asset. Formal cooking training will be considered an asset.

Manitoba applications are being accepted for our Adult Rehablitation Services. Applicants should be available to work on short notice.
RESPONSIBILIITES: Reporting to the Supervisor, James Toal Centre, and working within an integrated multi-disciplinary team, casual nurses are required to provide service to adult intensive program clients when the regular nursing staff are not available. Working closely with the on-site physician and clinical staff, typical duties include: Orienting clients to programs and identifying, and responding to health needs, ordering, preparing, and monitoring the use of prescribed and over counter medications. Counselling clients regarding health promotion, illness prevention and providing health related education/information. Shifts are 12 hours (0830 – 2030), Monday to Friday.
QUALIFICATIONS: Registered and licensed to practice with C.R.N.M or C.R.P.N.M.; minimum three years nursing experience; proven knowledge of current nursing theory and practise; possess a valid C.P.R. certificate; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills contributing to a positive multidisciplinary team environment are essential. Knowledge of the addictions field considered an asset.
